James was called to the Bar in 2010 and practices exclusively in the areas of personal injury and civil litigation, working as Counsel in association at Martin & Hillyer Associates in Burlington. Along with his colleague, Laura Hillyer, James was among the first lawyers in Ontario to successfully move to strike a civil jury as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Shortly thereafter, James and Laura were among the first lawyers in the Province to conduct a completely virtual personal injury trial via Zoom. James is a former and current participant in the Ontario Justice Network (OJEN) as a high school mock trial coach, and a former President of the Brain Injury Association of Peel & Halton (BIAPH). |

Kathleen practices in all areas of family law, helping clients with matters including custody and access issues, child and spousal support, separation agreements, and property division at Jamal Family Law in Oakville. Kathleen graduated from Queen’s University Faculty of Law where she received the Queen’s Law Prize in Environmental Protection Law. While in law school, Kathleen worked with Pro Bono Students Canada to provide community organizations with accessible legal information. She also volunteered with student orientation and a variety of student government committees. Kathleen was called to the Ontario Bar after articling with a mid-sized firm in Ottawa, Ontario. Prior to attending law school, Kathleen graduated with distinction from the University of Toronto where she completed her Honours Bachelor of Arts in political science and history. |
| Past President: Kathy Batycky
Kathy is a senior family law lawyer, working as Counsel in association at Stoner & Company Family Law Associates, in the newly established Oakville office. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 1980 after graduating from McGill University Law School. Kathy has been a litigator in the Ontario courts, for over 30 years. Since her call to the Bar, Kathy has practiced in civil litigation and family law. Kathy recently completed the family law mediation course and family law arbitration course through Riverdale Mediation in Toronto and has also obtained her Certificate in Elder Law through Osgoode Hall Law School. Kathy is currently a member of the executive of the Family Law Section of the OBA as well as a member at large of the CBA national family law section and vice-chair of the Family Law Practice Group for the Advocates Society. She has also been a member of the OBA Council for several years, and she has in the past been a member of the Executive of both of the OBA’s Child and Youth Law section and Elder Law section. |
